Music and Christian Worship at St. Paul's |
|
Worship is central to our
ministry at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. In our corporate worship,
God offers us forgiveness of sins and eternal life because of what Jesus
did for us. Week by week, we are confronted by our sinful nature,
assured of our forgiveness, and strengthened in our faith. All
that we do as a greater community flows from this. As Lutherans,
we acknowledge that the true Church exists where the Gospel is preached
purely and the sacraments are administered rightly. We recognize
that God reaches out to us through the Word that is read, sung, and
preached. Since the Reformation, music has been a fundamental part
of Lutheran worship. Martin Luther wrote: "I wish to make
German psalms for the people, that is to say sacred hymns, so that the
word of God may dwell among the people also by means of song." |

"Come, let us sing for joy
to the Lord . . . and extol him with music and song"
-- Psalm 95:1, 2
"Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord."
-- Ephesians 5:19 |
